Intent-Driven Engineering is expanding.
Over the past year, I’ve been writing, building, testing, teaching, and challenging some of the assumptions around how software engineering changes when AI becomes part of the development team.
Now I’m taking that conversation to video.
The new Intent-Driven Engineering video series is designed to be short, practical, opinionated, and focused on one question:
Where is software engineering really going next?
This isn’t about chasing every new AI tool that hits the market.
It’s about understanding the larger shift taking place underneath all of them.
From Code-Driven to Intent-Driven
For decades, software development has largely been organized around code, tickets, requirements, and development tasks.
AI changes that model.
Increasingly, the most important engineering skill is becoming the ability to clearly communicate intent:
What are we trying to accomplish?
What context does the AI need?
What constraints matter?
What should the result look like?
How do we know when the work is actually finished?
That is the foundation of Intent-Driven Engineering.
AI can generate code.
The bigger opportunity is building an engineering system that can understand the intent behind that code.
A New Weekly Video Series
I’ll be publishing new videos regularly covering what I’m seeing in the AI engineering market, what I’m experimenting with, and what I believe engineering organizations should be preparing for next.
Expect topics such as AI software factories, agentic development, Intent files, Progressive Intent, shared AI services, skills and automation, forward-deployed engineering, repository intelligence, AI architecture, developer productivity, and the changing role of software engineers.
There will also be a weekly Intent-Driven Engineering update focused on where the market is moving, what new ideas are emerging, what is actually working, and what may simply be hype.
Some weeks I may agree with the industry.
Some weeks I probably won’t.
That is part of the fun.

The goal is to build a library of practical ideas that engineers, architects, technology leaders, entrepreneurs, and anyone trying to understand AI-driven software development can come back to.
Why Video?
Some ideas are easier to explain in five minutes than in five pages.
Video gives me an opportunity to talk about what I’m seeing almost as quickly as I’m seeing it.
And AI engineering is moving fast enough that we need that kind of conversation.
The videos will not just be tutorials.
They will include experiments, predictions, architecture discussions, lessons learned, challenges to conventional thinking, and occasionally a few ideas that might make people uncomfortable.
That is intentional.
Good technology conversations should make us think.
Follow the Journey
Intent-Driven Engineering is still evolving.
That is one of the reasons I want to document the journey publicly.
We are moving toward a world where developers increasingly describe what needs to be built while intelligent engineering systems help determine how it gets built.
That transition will change our tools.
It will change our teams.
It will change software architecture.
And eventually, I believe it will change the entire software development lifecycle.
